Sensoric substitution

Sensory substitution means to transform the characteristics of one sensory modality into stimuli of another sensory modality.

It is hoped that sensory substitution systems can help handicapped people by restoring their ability to perceive a certain defective sensory modality by using sensory information from a functioning sensory modality.

Research Lines

Our group has been studying the tactile perception of Morse code. In this case, the person perceives linguistic information in an unusual way and person has the process of sensory substitution.

The measurements are made using a constructed ring transmitter which is shown in in the picture.
